BACK TO FISH
Mainly native to South-east Asia, Rasbora
are very peaceful tropical fish, preferring to school in
open water areas of the aquarium. Active swimmers,
they appreciate plenty of open swimming areas, with some
background planting. They are ideal candidates for
a community aquarium, with their lively sociable manner. Not
fussy about diet, Rasbora's have good appetites and will
eat most standard fish foods, but they also enjoy regular
feedings of live or frozen foods. For general care,
many Rasbora (such as the Scissortail Rasbora) are not particularly
fussy about water conditions, as long as extremes are avoided. If
trying to breed these egglayers, then soft slightly acidic
water is often required to be successful.

| BURMESE RUMMYNOSE 3.5CM |

This small scaleless species is native to Burma in
Lake Inle and adjacent swamps. Once settled,
the males soon start to show their characteristic red
noses and red tipped tails. Best kept as a small
group with other peaceful species. Burmese Rummynose
do well in neutral, hard to moderately hard water and
reputedly show less colour if kept in soft water. They
grow to about 4cm.

A very popular species, Harlequins are excellent aquarium
fish. Distinctively marked, they make a lovely
display when kept in a large school. Maximum
size is about 4.5cm.

Also known as the "Swift Rasbora", the Rasbora
Hengeli superficially resembles the familiar Harlequin
Rasbora though are more slender and have a smaller maximum
size. Their colours are often brighter as well. Grows
to 3.5-4cm. |

A hardy and adaptable Rasbora with distinctive tail
markings, the Scissortail is one of the more popular
members of the group. Best kept in a school with
other peaceful species. Not fussy about water
conditions or diet, they grow to about 10cm.
